About the band

One band. 500 souls. A living carnival.

Founded in 2004 under the leadership of Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, Seagull Band has grown into one of the largest and most celebrated bands in the Calabar Carnival, renowned for spectacular costumes, energetic performances, and a tradition of excellence.

Our essence

Creativity, culture, and community, on a scale few can match.

With over 500 active members, Seagull Band brings craft, choreography, and pageantry together in one of the carnival's most ambitious performances, a living, moving portrait of Cross River State.

For the 2026 edition, we carry the theme Rethinking Our Collective Destiny to the streets of Calabar, an invitation to imagine, together, what comes next.
